Blue Star Memorial

Marker Relocation and

Restoration Project

I-475 Rest Area

Macon, Georgia

On November 17, 2020 the Marker was relocated to a more prominent position at the Rest Area.

This relocation allowed Travelers to see the Marker as they entered the Rest Area!!

On 29 October 2021 the Contractor who restores Markers started the restoration project.  Due to the nature of the restoration with the dust when removing the peeling paint the Marker was moved to a temporary location at the Rest Area so that the area would not have to be closed down.  Here is a picture of the marker before any work was done.

The following pictures show the progress from removing the peeling paint to the repainting of the Marker!

The finished Marker.  This restoration was funded by the Camellia District of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.

The Project will be complete when the Georgia Department of Transportation places this restored Marker back on the pole near the Entrance to the Rest Area.   The Camellia District and the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. appreciates the support of the Georgia Department of Transportation as we continue to Honor Our Nation's Heroes who have Served, are Serving, and who will Serve in the Future!!

Fall Planting

Cooler Days and the need for some Fall Color around the House and the availability of appropriate plants caused this series of plantings on 12 October 2021.

Ornamental Peppers - from left to right:   Sangria/Sedona Sun/Zamora Red/Sedona Sun/Sangria.  This Planter was placed on the table so we could enjoy morning coffee and other meals.

Zinnias and Mums placed in pots for the front entrance!

The planting in the two urns was accomplished in May and includes Ruby Slipper Coleus and "Orange Rocket" Barberry - Berberis thunbergil.

To finish this Post I will also show the 13 Autumn  Ferns that were planted much earlier this year.  They  have flourished.  I purchased the quart size and the size indicates that they have grown well!!  Proof that plants do grow well and considerable sums of funds can be achieved by being willing to wait for the plant to flourish!!
